Yes, you did read that correctly - underwater rugby is a real sport and it’s growing in popularity in the U.K!

At the moment, in the UK, there are two teams playing underwater rugby, PURE UWR London and the Gloucestershire Barracudas. We have currently around 50 active players and our numbers are growing fast.  What’s more, around the world, there are thousands of players playing this challenging and competitive sport. The global underwater rugby community will be coming together in Austria in July next year to compete for the 11th Underwater Rugby World Cup .

We, The British Underwater Rugby Association (BURA ) , are a new member of The World Underwater Federation (CMAS). Our mission is to promote and develop the sport of underwater rugby in the UK. We intend to do this by collaborating with clubs, individuals, associations, universities, schools, and businesses.

We are also the official governing body of underwater rugby in the U.K, and we are responsible for selecting and sending a men’s team and a women’s team to represent Great Britain in the World Cup next year.

However, we need your help to make this a reality - the entry fee to take part in the World Cup is €3000 and as a new sport in the U.K. we do not yet have access to the same funding streams as more mainstream sports. Therefore, we are relying on donations and your sponsorship to make this happen!
